Beaverlodge & District Agricultural Society Revised Arena Rules: Effective April 1, 2026

• All Members will be restricted to a maximum of 4 consecutive hours of arena use daily. 4 hours are included with your membership. *If you require additional time you are welcome to book ahead and purchase it through the rental system. (User group bookings riders are exempt)

• No horses are to be turned loose in the arena at any time.

• Only two horses, per member, allowed inside the arena.

• Only two horses may be lunged at a time, please use the far end away from tie area.

• Trainer/Coach Yearly Arena Membership $500 Monthly Membership $45

• Commercial 2 million in Liability insurance is recommended by Alberta Ag Societies. We will also offer a waiver option to our members, from the EQUINE PROTECTION ACT OF ALBERTA.

• Any professional TRAINER OR COACH that does not provide proof of insurance, will have to sign an additional Waiver stating:

___ I acknowledge that the Beaverlodge Ag Society/Arena normally requires all Professional trainers, Coaches to carry Commercial Liability , I however:

___I confirm that I do not currently carry Commercial Liability in the amount of $2 million, and request permission to conduct training or instruction at the Beaverlodge Ag arena without such insurance

___I understand and acknowledge equine activities involve inherent risks, and horses are unpredictable.

___I voluntarily assume liability for any claims, injuries, damages or losses arising from my instruction or training activities.

• The insurance waiver will need to be signed before arena use will be approved for professionals.

• Beaverlodge Ag Society is going to use the following definition of Trainer or Coach when implementing the new rules. This is taken from the EQUINE PROTECTION ACT OF ALBERTA.

• Professional Trainer: A person whose primary job is training horses or providing instruction for compensation.

• An Amateur (Private Rider Assistance) Occasional, informal by a horse owner , or rider helping with; riding, handling, or horsemanship, where there may a small honorarium paid.

• Professional Trainers may only use the arena during designated Training/Colt Breaking days & times. Trainers are welcome to ride with their family but not train during public riding times.

• For all members Training/Colt Breaking will be limited to; Weekdays, before noon. But not on Tuesday and Thursday mornings when Regular Roping - Heelomatic time is booked. Weekends and Holidays to be finished by 10 AM to allow time for our many other members including non-pro and youth. In addition, Training/Colt Breaking will also be permitted on Monday evenings after 7 PM.

*If you require additional training hours you are welcome to book ahead and rent more arena time.

• For an Alberta Ag Society, the term “Training/Colt Breaking” for the purpose of arena access will be understood as the process of training young horses (colts) in a controlled, safe, and supervised environment, often for riding work or showing purposes. In this context, it is important to frame in terms of risk management, animal welfare, and liability, because agricultural societies often host events , demonstrations or lessons.

• Pass left shoulder, to left shoulder and always try to ride in the same direction. *Cue quietly

• Be courteous and work together.  *Slow on inside, fast on outside

• Clean what your animal has left behind in the arena, tie area and parking lot

• Put away all obstacles in their designated place

• Announce your intentions by telling others what you are planning to do

• Users should be doing similar things, if possible

• Mount and dismount in the centre and out of the way

• Youth under 8 must wear an impact resistant helmet. Appropriate footwear is recommended

• Reasonable control of your animal must be always demonstrated

• Animals that are creating an unsafe environment may be refused access to the arena or facility

• Minors under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult

• All horses are to be tied in designated areas only

• The last person to leave the facility is responsible to shut off all lights and make sure all doors are shut and locked

• Inhumane or mistreatment of any livestock will not be tolerated

• Please ensure that your fees are paid before you ride

• All riders are required to have a current WAIVER and AEF Membership.  Memberships can be purchased thru AEF by calling (403)253-4411 or www.albertaequestrian.com

• Use arena and facility at your own risk

• NO DOGS.  NO ALCOHOL.  NO SMOKING.

Beaverlodge & District Ag Society Zero Tolerance Rule for Arena Users: Effective March 9, 2026.

Zero Tolerance refers to those rules that treat minor and major incidents of inappropriate behavior with equal severity in order to send a strong message to potential violators. The purpose of this rule is to promote mutual respect and cooperation, encourage the values of community- mindedness, and establish standards of expected behaviour.

The goal is to eliminate verbal or physical abuse and maintain a safe physical and respectful social atmosphere for our members, directors and executive as well as all users of our facilities.

Rule: All employees, members, directors, executive directors, and users of Ag Society facilities are subject to these rules. It applies to behavior that may occur during the course of all Ag Society business, activities and events. It also applies to behaviours between individuals associated with the Ag Society but outside of the Ag Society’s business, activities and events when such behaviour adversely affects relationships within the Ag Society’s business, activities, events and environment.

The following types of behaviours will not be tolerated:

• Conduct that creates an intimidating, hostile or offensive environment; • Written or verbal abuse or threats;

• The display of visual material which is offensive or which one ought to know is offensive; • Unwelcome remarks, jokes, comments, innuendo, or taunting, including uttering profanities or obscenities;

• Leering or other suggestive or obscene gestures;

• Condescending, paternalistic, or patronizing behaviours which undermines self-esteem, diminishes performance, or adversely affects working conditions; • Practical jokes which cause awkwardness or embarrassment, endanger a person’s safety, or negatively affect performance;

• Unwanted physical contact including touching, petting, pinching or kissing;

• Unwelcome sexual assault, attempted or actual;

• Possession of alcohol at unlicensed private bookings;

• Possession of outside alcohol at events wherein alcohol is being served, or use of illegal substances during any Ag Society meeting, function, and/or event; • Public intoxication during public or private booking or Ag Society meeting; and, • Other behaviors as determined by the Board of Directors.

Procedures: Any violation of these rules will result in the following actions:

• immediate ejection from the facility, meeting, public or private booking, or Ag Society event

• if the person fails to leave upon request, and if warranted, the R.C.M.P. will be called and charges may be laid;

• the Board of Directors may issue a written warning to the said individual; and

• the Board of Directors may choose to revoke the membership of the said individual, with immediate loss of privileges of membership.

If someone is in violation of the zero tolerance rules and it is not urgent please send an email detailing the incident including date, time, description of what happened, to beaverlodgeag@gmail.com and it will be brought to the Board of Directors.
